Missions
We Are People of Outreach and Service...
With our commitment to missions, we touch the lives of thousands of people with the love of Christ.
We contribute world wide to educational programs, church development and agricultural/economic development.
- Through Church World Service, we have contributed to Hurricane and Famine Relief and provided school and health kits to children in Afghanistan and Iraq. We have supported Church world Service's Tools of Hope/Blanket program and have been recognized as a CWS Congregation since 1996. We also participate in the CWS-sponsored CROP walk each Fall (For more information check out www.churchworldservice.org).
- Through Heifer Project International we successfully completed a "Fill The Ark Project" raising $5,000 to provide animals and teach animal husbandry to various parts of the world. (For more information check out www.heifer.org).
- We have partnered with The Catoctin Association and Iglesia Bethel Reformed Church in El Progresso, Honduras in a joint ministry to help build Concrete block houses and provide scholarships so children can advance beyond a 6th grade education.
We contribute in our county and city to provide emergency assistance and regular programs. With direct contributions to local projects, we are helping to meet emergency needs o battered women and their children, the elderly, troubled youth, the homeless, and much more. In partnership with god we have expanded our missions program so that it represents a goal of 10% of our budget.
- On the third Sunday of each month we collect groceries to be distributed through the Frederick Food Bank.
- Through the Community Action Agency we serve dinner at the local soup kitchen on the first Sunday of the even-numbered months.
- The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs (established by the downtown churches over a decade ago) works with the Social Services Department of Frederick County to coordinate vital needs such as health care, filling prescription drugs, emergency shelter and other services. During the months of October through April, Grace Church provides staffing, funding and supplies for the Emergency Cold Weather Shelter. In 2001, we secured a $3,100 grant from UCC Hunger Action funds, which helped support the shelter's operation that year.
- Through Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County (see www.frederickhabitat.org for more information) , we serve as a Covenant Church for a local project having received a $3000 Grant from the Central Atlantic Conference (specified for purchase of kitchen appliances). We will also assist in providing volunteers and meals to volunteers and, if necessary, housing for out-of-town volunteers.
We have had an on-going relationship with Habitat for Humanity of Garrett County since 2001, sending work crews to help build homes in one of Maryland's most economically challenged areas.
